Your Questions About Successful Trading Business

Chris asks…

Why is it that the Philippines is the favorite business site of foreign businessmen ?

Just want to verify and know the collective reasons of foreign businessmen, why they frequent Philippines and established business there.

John answers:

I doubt the Philippines is the favorite site in the world for business travel. People travel to the places their business takes them. There is a lot more business travel within the USA, or Europe or Japan than to the Philippines — which has less industry, less trade, less everything.

That said it may be the Philippines is relatively successful and it is worthwhile trying to understand the reasons for this success.

The way you phrased the question, however, makes it almost reads like a joke — like you are looking for the answer given by the first poster, who made reference to prostitution. To that I’ll just mention that prostitutes make themselves available to businessmen all over the world. To the extent the Philippines competes with other Asian countries for this skeevy business is not so interesting.

Ken asks…

Bussines degree necessary for a successful business?

I wanted to start a new business. My education is just an associate’s degree. As we all know, these days, business degrees are a buzzword in the corporate world. I wanted to ask if a viable business degree is really necessary for me to take on successful private entrpreneurship. Im asking because, due to some limitations, i might not pursue a campus gegree, and might have to go with my business without further education. And is there any informal way to sharpen your business skills without a business degree?

John answers:

Business degree is important for getting corporate employment, but not necessary for starting business. Remember, the big entrepreneurs of the day — Bill Gates of Microsoft, Steve Jobs of Apple and others are college dropouts and did not finish their college education

What you need are:

– understanding of the business you are getting into
– willingness to learn
– willingness to work hard
– ability to spot opportunities and take advantage of them
– persistence and perseverance, even in the face of tremendous adversities
– ability to reach customers and market the business

You can definitely succeed without earning a business degree. But if you want more knowledge and information, there are a number of ways you can get information

1. Borrow books in the library on how to start a business. Some good books include

Lisa asks…

How do you become a successful actor?

I’ve really gotten into acting over the last few years and I’ve been often told I’m good and I’d like to make a career out of it but I don’t really know how. I understand acting is a tough and competitive business to break into and having an acting agent really helps but I don’t know how to get an acting agent either. But I’m willing to do whatever it takes. Like I’ve been attending an acting school for a couple of years, I’m part of the drama society in my college and I go to as many auditions as I can and I’ve acted in a number of productions and showcases and one short film. But part of me is worried about how acting will turn out for me. Like I worry that it might not turn out the way I hoped.

John answers:

There’s no one way to become an actor. The thing is – most professional actors don’t make a living by acting alone. Professional acting is a business, so if you’re interested in trying to make it a career, you’ll have to research and learn the business end of things. You’re not going to just fall into an acting career and no one is going to just give it to you – it’s something your going to have to take charge of and plan. It’s like starting a company and YOU are the product you’re going to have to market and sell. You need a good product (talent, training and experience). But you also have to understand the industry. You have to network and make contacts. You have to know how to market your skills So start reading industry trades like Variety or backstage.com. Check out books about having a professional acting career like “Self Management for Actors” by Bonnie Gillespie “Acting Make It Your Business” by Paul Russell’s and “Acting as a Business” by Brian O’Neil. Start setting goals and working toward a professional career.

Good luck.
